Ph miracle and macrobiotic 7 day cleanse – The process.

I made it through the seven days! Damn it was tough! Hardest thing I have ever done in my life.

Here’s how I went about it; firstly had to transition into it, over 2 months, cut out all sugar, including fruit sugars, then all dairy products, including eggs, next all wheat product, then fish and seafood. After two weeks of full vegan ism, went for the fast. I was pescatarian anyways so didn’t have to deal with meat withdrawal.

I found the abstention surprisingly easy. I took chromium supplements to ease the cravings. One of the hardest parts was deciphering the ingredients in store bought products. I soon realised most contained unhealthy ingredients, even the ones you would expect to be healthy. I soon found that all supermarket products had issues and I needed to shop in a health food store. The local one in Manchester’s city centre seems overly expensive and the staff mostly unpleasant. This meant travelling to Chorlton to ‘The Unicorn’ This co-operative offers much better value and friendly staff.

oatcakes

I found bread the most difficult thing to stop eating. I went through a lot of oatcakes! The ones made with olive oil are scrumptious!

Macrobiotic theory also played a part in choosing which foods not to eat. Basically no deadly nightshades due to their oxalic acid and solanine content.

Soon I was ready for the full 7 day fast.

Supplements I took during fast:

Multi Vit
Vit B Complex
Ester C Capsules
Chromium
Magnesium
Zinc
Vit A
Vit E
Starflower oil
Selenium
Hemp oil
Soya lecithin
5-Htp
L-Tyrosine
Olive leaf extract
Black walnut hulls
Nac
ProbioticsBEB48F396F8D7CA41015E1808CD2F0

During the fast I drank a lot of water – 3 litres a day, with pH drops to alkalise the water. Also vegetable juice made from just green veg and barley-grass and wheat-grass. I started off diluting the raw juice about ten parts, but this soon became undrinkable, made me nauseous, I found the veg juice neat was much more palatable.

I found juices mixed tasted unpleasant, but on there own were good. The humble Cucumber or courgette became my best buddies.cucumber-or-zuchini

It was tough, after day three severe fatigue set in, lots of toxins being released from stored fat and my bloodstream. Headaches, dizziness, general malaise.

Day five was weak as a kitten, at some points couldn’t lift my arms. energy levels 5-10%

Getting strong food cravings, for mainly comfort foods from my childhood, fried breakfasts, Steak and kidney pudding, chips and gravy, peanut butter on toast, toast in general. These foods haunt me. Toast dipping into a fried egg in plum tomato juice is the king taunter. Am severely craving this.

Day six things started to improve, most of the toxins removed. 15-20%

Day seven, just waiting for that first taste of food. A round courgette. Never has anything tasted so good! 30-35%

One amazing point – all of my excess body fat has completely gone. My stomach is washboard flat.
At age 39 I was finding it very difficult to shift a lil paunch that had appeared.

Next two days were difficult too, very weak, dizzy etc.

Three days later am starting to feel more normal. 50-55% energy levels.

Today is the fourth day after the fast and am up to about 60-65% energy levels.cucumber-500x500

Next stage is a strict 5 week alkaline diet.

For breakfast this morning had organic broccoli, kale and spring greens with garlic hemp oil and tahini sauce. Gorgeous! Am really enjoying my vegan diet, each meal is a delight. I have discovered roasted hazelnuts and almonds OMG! With my taste buds reset these treats are ambosiac!

Organic broccoli stems taste so sweet, like chocolate! broccoli

Ph miracle and macrobiotic 7 day cleanse – The process.

The ph miracle – Dr Robert O Young, Shelly Redford Young.

This book makes sense to me. My partner and I are both in the cleanse stage of the process – Day three to be precise.ph_miracle1
We transitioned over a couple of months; firstly cutting out sugar, next week, dairy products and then bread products the following week. Next we gradually switched to short grain brown rice, instead of the cous-cous we used to eat a lot of. Then something I thought I would struggle with, cutting out fish and seafood. Soon we were ready for the cleanse stage.
One of my favourite meals was brown rice with green vegetables and tahini sauce, with garlic hemp oil and liberal amounts of toasted pumpkin and sesame seeds. Delicious!
The whole idea is to alkalize your system, purifying your blood.
This is done by transitioning through your bad eating habits to a 7-10 day cleanse period and then a 7-10 week alkaline stage.
182370_317425715002115_250949118316442_713640_288942819_n The cleanse stage consists of adding ph drops to all your water and vegetable juices, to increase the alkalinity. No solid food, only green vegetable juices for 7 days. PH-drops-500x500
Day two i personally found very challenging. Was very hungry and couldn’t stop visualizing my favourite dishes. It is interesting our relationship to food. This process puts that relationship into sharp focus. I found taste memory throwing up all sorts of past comforting treats, including meat dishes, although I have been a pescatarian for over 10 years. It is amazing how much time we spend on buying, preparing and eating food. I thought I would struggle with fish and seafood, but to my surprise I have not missed them at all. I am missing the brown rice. Gosh that Brown rice is delicious, so Earthy and wholesome. brown rice risotto - plain - reduced
Managed to get a juicer from a good friend and during the cleanse stage have been shopping organic and experimenting with juicin. At first we diluted the juice by about ten times, with water, as suggested in the book, but MY GAWD they taste horrible! Realised they taste great if undiluted. Just had a courgette and cucumber juice, tasted great! Also got some wheatgrass and barley grass powders from a local health food store, just put a tea spoon into some water and hey presto, super healthy alkalizing beverage.Naturya Wheatgrass Powder2 200g 1000 The main reason I went for the diet is to clear my skin, I am 39 years old and suffer from spots on my face, not acne but spots, sometimes small boils. I have worked out that tomatoes, chillies and MSG are major flare up ingredients for me, recently went to south east Asia for 6 weeks and found it almost impossible not to come into contact with these three. My tanned skin was severely marked when i got home. Am sincerely hoping this process will sort my skin out. So far it definitely seems to be working 🙂 Alcohol also seems to be a blight for me and so have managed not to have a drink in over 2 years now. Luckily I found a girlfriend who does not drink and who is very encouraging with helping me sort out my skin issue.
Day three i have actually found easier, slightly more energy and less spaced out feeling than day two.
Will keep you informed of how we get on..

A truth about hair.

This information about hair has been hidden from the public since the Vietnam War.

Our culture leads people to believe that hair style is a matter of personal preference, that hair style is a matter of fashion and/or convenience, and that how people wear their hair is simply a cosmetic issue. Back in the Vietnam war however, an entirely different picture emerged, one that has been carefully covered up and hidden from public view.

In the early nineties,  Sally [name changed to protect privacy]  was married to a licensed psychologist who worked at a VA Medical hospital. He worked with combat veterans with PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder.  Most of them had served in Viet Nam.

Sally said, ”I remember clearly an evening when my husband came back to our apartment on Doctor’s Circle carrying a thick official looking folder in his hands. Inside were hundreds of pages of certain studies commissioned by the government. He was in shock from the contents. What he read in those documents completely changed his life. From that moment on my conservative middle of the road husband grew his hair and beard and never cut them again. What is more, the VA Medical center let him do it, and other very conservative men in the staff followed his example.

As I read the documents, I learned why. It seems that during the Vietnam War special forces in the war department had sent undercover experts to comb American Indian Reservations looking for talented scouts, for tough young men trained to move stealthily through rough terrain. They were especially looking for men with outstanding, almost supernatural, tracking abilities. Before being approached, these carefully selected men were extensively documented as experts in tracking and survival.

With the usual enticements, the well proven smooth phrases used to enroll new recruits, some of these indian trackers were then enlisted. Once enlisted, an amazing thing happened. Whatever talents and skills they had possessed on the reservation seemed to mysteriously disappear, as recruit after recruit failed to perform as expected in the field.

Serious casualties and failures of performance led the government to contract expensive testing of these recruits, and this is what was found.

When questioned about their failure to perform as expected, the older recruits replied consistantly that when they received their required military haircuts, they could no longer ’sense’ the enemy, they could no longer access a ’sixth sense’ , their ’intuition’ no longer was reliable, they couldn’t ’read’ subtle signs as well or access subtle extrasensory information.

So the testing institute recruited more Native American trackers, let them keep their long hair, and tested them in multiple areas. Then they would pair two men together who had received the same scores on all the tests.  They would let one man in the pair keep his hair long, and gave the other man a military haircut. Then the two men retook the tests.

Time after time the man with long hair kept making high scores. Time after time, the man with the short hair failed the tests in which he had previously scored high scores.

Here is a typical test:

The recruit is sleeping out in the woods.  An armed ’enemy’ approaches the sleeping man.  The long haired man is awakened out of his sleep by a strong sense of danger and gets away long before the enemy is close, long before any sounds from the approaching enemy are audible.

In another version of this test the long haired man senses an approach and somehow intuits that the enemy will perform a physical attack. He follows his ’sixth sense’ and stays still, pretending to be sleeping, but quickly grabs the attacker and ’kills’ him as the attacker reaches down to strangle him.

This same man, after having passed these and other tests, then received a military haircut and consistantly failed these tests, and many other tests that he had previously passed.

So the document recommended that all Indian trackers be exempt from military haircuts. In fact, it required that trackers keep their hair long.”

Additional Notes:

The mammalian body has evolved over millions of years. Survival skills of human and animal at times seem almost supernatural. Science is constantly coming up with more discoveries about the amazing abilities of man and animal to survive.  Each part of the body has highly sensitive work to perform for the survival and well being of the body as a whole. The body has a reason for every part of itself.

Hair is an extension of the nervous system, it can be correctly seen as exteriorized nerves, a type of highly evolved ’feelers’ or ’antennae’ that transmit vast amounts of important information to the Brainstem, the Limbic system, and the Neocortex.

Not only does hair in people, including facial hair in men, provide an information highway reaching the brain,  hair also emits energy, the electromagnetic energy emitted by the brain into the outer environment. This has been seen in Kirlian photography when a person is photographed with long hair and then rephotographed after the hair is cut.

When hair is cut, receiving and sending transmissions to and from the environment are greatly hampered. This results in numbing-out .

Cutting of hair is a contributing factor to unawareness of environmental distress in local ecosystems.  It is also a contributing factor to insensitivity in relationships of all kinds. It contributes to sexual frustration.

Conclusion:

In searching for solutions for the distress in our world, it may be time for us to consider that many of our most basic assumptions about reality are in error.  It may be that a major part of the solution is looking at us in the face each morning when we see ourselves in the mirror.

The story of Sampson and Delilah in the Bible has a lot of encoded truth to tell us. When Delilah cut Sampson’s hair, the once undefeatable Sampson was defeated.

Day 87 Eckhart Tolle’s The power of now

Have been letting the breathing slip into a more relaxed pace of practice, now usually once or twice daily, some days not at all. Although we have been breathing less, we have been breathing more thorough.

Have been reading Eckhart Tolle’s The power of now. I feel this is one of the most important books ever written. The description and understanding of the emotional pain body is life changing information.

I especially appreciate Chapter eight’s description of modern relationships, more life changing information.

I first read this book about five years ago and feel it has had more effect on me than any other text.

My favourite quote;

“Flood your body with consciousness.”

These five simple words have so much of a positive effect on my life.

It seems my different practices are linking together well.

The presence exercises of Eckhart tolle, the eight limbs of kriya yoga, the sexual energy training of Mantak Chia. Combined with a much better diet and best quality supplements, as recommended by Patrick Holford, My partner and I have never been happier.

day 18

Back on track now.

Changed from easy breath to Sun piercing breath.

Easy breath is too boring! takes sooo long. I moved through it rapidly and was soon doing the hold for 20 seconds. This wasn’t any strain, just boring. So I changed it.

Sun piercing breath feels strong. You hold the anal contraction whilst inhaling through the right nostril, holding for 5 seconds then exhaling through the left. It is difficult to exhale whilst holding the anal contraction.

Feels nice to get back to the regularity of 4 times a day breathing.

Went for a run this morning. Feel strong and fit. My fitness levels have been steadily growing, from lots of swimming and running and mountain climbing in Greece, also high altitude cycling in switzerland. Finished with a strong sprint. The last time I went for a run, about 3 days ago, on my return leg I fell into a very comfortable stride. It felt like I got into some hitherto unheard of running zone. I have never felt so relaxed whilst gliding along at a fair clip.

Started taking some good quality multi vitamins and minerals recently and these seem to be having a positive effect. Have been sleeping much less, 5 – 6 hours a night, without any impaired functionality; usually need 8 -1 0 hours.

Today got some phospholipids and flexseed oil, also some zinc. Been reading Patrick Holfords Nutritional bible and decided to aim for optimal nutrition.

I do feel the Pranayama has an amazing effect on my overall being. It is subtle, yet undoubtable. All areas of life get adjusted and tweaked. Bad moods and negative thought loops seem to be a thing of the past.

I have stopped eating sugar and am craving super foods, such as beet root, watercress, mackeral and salmon.

I think my love life is also contributing to my general sense of well being. Mantak Chia techniques really open up a whole new world.

Day 1-5 Qigong experiment begins!

Recently I have been through some serious ulcer pain. I let my practice slip after allowing myself to become entangled in a relationship which wasn’t right for me. after some painful, sleepless nights I decided something needed to be done. My friends told me to go to a doctors and get pills which cut down the production of stomach acid. I did not like the sound of that.

Instead I began reading Mantak Chia‘s Awaken healing energy.

This book is just what I needed. I began practising The inner smile and The micro-cosmic orbit regularly, morning and evening. I also began conserving my ching energy.

At first my energy was low. I just kept practicing. My body started to desire only healthy foods. I feel the inner smile works by sending love to each of the yang organs which wakes them up and they start to function better.

After five days my ulcer is completely healed.

This morning whilst inner smiling to my lungs and feeling a sense of self acceptance I was overcome by feelings of deep relaxation and self contentment, I simply felt Great! For the first time in a while I feel an inner energy and level of self containment that had been lost to me.

I intend to practise twice daily for 1 – 3 months and keep a record here of my advancement. This recording will aid me to keep at it, and hopefully act as a future guide for others.

Wish me good luck!

Cancer prevention diet.

Within 72 hours of oxygen deprivation any cell can become cancerous. Cancer cells thrive in an oxygen-deprived environment. To stave off cancer forever eat the following semi daily: Apple/Apricot & Grape Seeds (Laetrile/Vit B17), Sodium Bicarbonate (Organic Baking Soda), Green Algae/seaweed (Chlorella/Iodine), Tumeric Spice (Curcumin), Liquid Vit C & D3, Kale, Cilantro, Beet Root, Celery, Carrot and organic apple cider, noni juice is also good.

Just to clarify it is essential to eat the entire Organic Apple & Apricot, especially the seeds. That’s the cancer fighting agent. In the case of apricots, crack the pit open with a hammer (wrap in a towel to avoid splattering – eat the soft pit on the inside)

It’s also essential to avoid Sodium Fluoride in all its insidious forms for this process to work successfully.

This needs to be carried out in keeping with a healthy avoidance of all the pitfalls (within reason naturally) – gluten, casein, sugars, iodized salts, poly-saturated fats, all GMO produce. Once your Thyroid is functioning at an optimal level, once your alkaline balance is restored, you have a much better chance of making real progress toward long-term optimal health.

A hundred years ago less than 1 in 1000 people died of cancer. In 2007, cancer claimed the lives of about 7.6 million people in the world. In 2008 nearly 1,500,000 died of some form of cancer in the United States, in Canada upwards of 75,00…0 deaths. In the UK on average 1 in 3 will be diagnosed with cancer, and 1 in 4 will die.

“If I am able to help only one cancer sufferer to escape the excruciating and inescapable pain of death caused through treatment by ‘orthodox methods,’ I have done something worthwhile.”

Maurice Natenberg, author of ‘The Cancer Blackout‘

“Cancer was practically unknown until compulsory vaccination with cowpox vaccine began to be introduced. I have had to deal with at least two hundred cases of cancer, and I never saw a case of cancer in an unvaccinated person.” Dr. W.B. Clark of Indiana/1936

“The war against cancer will continue to fail. Avoidable cancers will continue to become commoner and commoner and the establishment will continue to ensure that only the toxic (but highly profitable) alleged treatments of cancer which are authorized by the pharmaceutical industry will be authorized by governments. The cancer industry will not find the all powerful magic bullet cure for which it has been searching now for decades. It will fail because it is wedded to an interventionist paradigm which depends upon treating the body as a battlefield and the disease as an enemy.” Dr. Vernon Coleman

Within 72 hours of oxygen deprivation any cell will become cancerous. Cancer cells thrive in an oxygen-deprived environment. This will occur when bio-conductive aluminum (consisting of live virus, antibiotic, heavy metal, detergent coagulated sludge) clogs the vast network of arterial veins & capillaries, inducing Ischemia.

‘Oxygen–glucose deprivation resulted in expression of apoptotic and necrotic cell death phenotypes, especially in neurons.’ ‘Following 72 hours incubation in the presence of 0.3% O2, cells were labeled with Annexin V/PI and the level of cell death was measured by flow cytometry. In 6 independent experiments, hypoxia increased levels of Annexin V-positive OC316 cells from 5.3 ± 1.0% to 19.2 ± 2.8%; …cell death under these conditions had predominant features of late apoptosis.’

Cheryl Comstock “Would Kombucha Tea be good?”

Joel Lord ‘…it’s a colony of bacteria and yeast. Kombucha tea is made by adding the colony to sugar and black or green tea and allowing the mix to ferment. The resulting liquid contains vinegar, B vitamins and a number of other chemical compounds…. Kombucha tea is commonly prepared by taking a starter sample from an existing culture and growing a new colony in a fresh jar. Health benefits attributed to Kombucha tea include stimulating the immune system, preventing cancer, and improving digestion and liver function.’

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/kombucha-tea/AN01658

I haven’t tried it Cheryl but it looks really beneficial. I would just be careful as both green and black tea contain fluoride, although green tea contains twice the amount found in black. personally I’d tend toward a 100% organic version of Kombucha or any tea.

It seems to have similar benefits to Noni Juice, which I use daily.

credit goes to joel for this , thank you

I’d also look for variety. For instance, heirloom tomatoes and carrots are more nutritious than their conventional counterparts. The following would be my shopping list:

  • Citrus Fruit (all varieties)
  • Green Apples (Red apples contain too much sugar. Absolutely must be organic.)
  • Beets (Great for detoxifying the blood and cleansing the liver. Look for different kinds. Must be organic.)
  • Ginger (Good for nausea and digestive problems. An anti-inflammatory that promotes healthy blood circulation. Always add to juice with beets, garlic, or radishes.)
  • Pineapple (Contains a massive amount of enzymes. Loaded with vitamins and minerals. I would not eat pineapple initially, if I were diabetic.)
  • Carrots (Must be organic.)
  • Spinach (See Spinach – Food of the Month. Must be organic.)
  • Rainbow Chard (Provides antioxidant protection in the form of phytonutrients and vitamin C.)
  • Garlic (Garlic contains germanium, an anti-cancer agent.)
  • Spanish Black Radish (Protects against free radicals and aids the liver. Must be organic.)
  • Tomatoes (Contain large amounts of vitamin C, lycopene, courmaric acid, and chlorogenic acid, all of which help fight cancer.)
  • Parsley (Increases the antioxidant capacity of the blood. Is an anti-bacterial and a blood purifier. Improves digestion of fats and is high in enzymes.)
  • Cilantro (An anti-inflammatory that fights free radicals.)
  • Kale (see Kale | Food of the Month)
  • Lemons (Aids the liver in flushing out toxins. Helps the kidneys flush out fluids. Great source of Vitamin C.)
  • Celery and Celery Leaves (Nutrients in the fiber are released during juicing. Leaves and stems provide a wide variety of vitamins and minerals.)
  • Blueberries (Massive amounts of cancer fighting antioxidants and a wide array of vitamins and minerals. Absolutely must be organic.)

Day 31 Ayahuasca synthesised senses.

Do ayahuasca and yoga mix?

No.

Though Yoga is a great way to prepare for ayahuasca learning. The cleansing of the nadi channels allows for greater visions.

Ayahuasca is to be imbibed at night, lay down in a dark room, maybe some candle light, and prepare for the awesome DMT experience. Conserve your energy leading up to a ayahuasca session. Eat only simple foods and wait about 2 hours after eating to partake. I find it best to slowly drink a medium strength brew first to ease yourself into the experience then have a strong brew ready to sip until you reach your desired limit. Ayahuasca will let you know when you are at your limit. Pray to ayahuasca reverentially for a good experience.

Ayahuasca is like a personal psychiatrist, spiritual teacher, life long friend and guide. Treat her with respect.

It is made from the ayahuasca vine ( Banisteriopsis Caapi) and the leaf of the Chacruna plant (PsychotriaViridis). The two combine to make a potent medicine. Ayahuasca is a name derived from two Quechua words: aya means spirit, ancestor, deceased person, and huasca means vine or rope, hence it is
known as vine of the dead or vine of the soul.

With eyes open there is not much effect, totally different from mushrooms or LSD. One must close ones eyes and it is the inner space that becomes alive.

Initially it felt to me as if the ayahuasca was a multitude of snakes, slivering over my entire being, sussing me out on an extremely deep level.

Should I attempt to meditate? I could see a spherical shining bulb, at my third eye, which had a multitude of sensory devices sensing me. Should I turn of thought and attempt to go through the tunnel of samadhi?

“No.”

“Just relax and experience.”

I seemed to intuit that to go through into samadhi on DMT would not be a good idea. Ayahuasca is an extremely powerful experience on its own, it does not require combining it with other sensory phenomenons, as a novelty.

Swirling fractal 3-D patterns accompanied the initial inspection. More than just visual, the visions combine feeling so your being is intertwined with the visions. Your nervous system becomes visionary. My normally flat, black, inner visional state transformed into a huge space alive with vision and feeling,

I remembered I had downloaded some icaro and decided to fumble about with the laptop to get the sacred music playing. It was worth it.

Icaro are essential.

If ayahuasca  was a bunch of snakes then Icaro was the snake charmer. Delight infused the experience. The Icaro are unbelievably beautiful when experienced with ayahuasca. Such seemingly simply melodies can easily be seen as primitive in todays electronic culture. That is a mistake. The power contained in Icaro is humblingly miraculous. I have an over flooding respect for the Shaman who have devoted their lives to the healing spirit of the sacred vine.

The spirit was very happy with the Icaro and the visions became awesome in depth and beauty. Indescribable worlds of 5- dimensional complexity, an ever changing flux of splendour. How can I best describe the ayahuasca experience to one who has never encountered? We are used to our normal 3 dimensions in this reality with time being the fourth, with ayahuasca feeling becomes the fifth dimension.

Imagine being a flower opening under the dawn suns rays; actually try to experience the feeling of being that flower. Feel joy in opening, being. Now imagine being that flower located in the center of the Amazon jungle. The sun rises and you are now the entire jungle, from horizon to horizon, opening in joy. Can you feel being the entire jungle?

Inner vision and physical sensation synthesise to create a new sense.

After a flash of what appeared to be a chakra body map,

I asked the spirit,

“Can you teach me about chakras?”

“NO. We are not Vedic.”

“What are you?”

“We are this.

Come dance with us.”

I felt elation, joy and deep bliss as the spirit pulled my essence up and out of my body into the visional world in which we danced together.

After indeterminate time the icaro stop. Do I re play them or do I sit alone with the serpent? I am starting to get sleepy, having peaked, am still heavily infused. I decide to turn off the laptop and attempt sleep.

There is blatantly no way I am going to sleep, though I am way tired. I was stupid to walk so far earlier and tire myself out. Ayahuasca starts to suggests ways in which I can improve my life, gently at first, then more in depth, soon I am stripped to the core.

Uneasy visions and feelings combine ruthlessly, presenting the effects my actions will cause if I do not change my ways. Every question is answered in pain-staking ultimate detail. I am convinced I must change. My core is empty.

I realise even the bad visions and feelings are constantly changing and they will pass. All is not bad however, I have improved considerably since my last ayahuasca session. I have some interesting options available. Ayahuasca shows me certain people whom I can help.

The yin yang of life is revealed in the microcosm of  ayahuasca experience; Indescribable highs of bliss to terrifying depths of shame in a hyper real intensity of being.

I reach for the laptop and  manage to play the icaro. I have definitely peaked and am coming down. It seemed to rise for about an hour, peak for an hour, then take about four hours to come down. The icaro relight ayahuasca’s joy and she is less harsh with me as we dance together again.

Constant drinking of water and urinating bring me back down to earth.

I started at 9 pm, went for a long walk then imbibed again at 11.30 pm, then more at 12.00 midnight. About 4:30 am I had come down but was still unable to sleep and dozed till 10:00 am, till I rise.

Day two – Yogic diet, supplements, celibacy and Siddhi.

Ummm I feel everything is coming together nicely! Arose at 6:30 this morn without need for an alarm, and enjoyed a lovely morning session. My times are already starting to gradually climb.

Spent the morning reading about Pratyahara, sense withdrawal, in Goswami Kriyananda ‘s wonderful work, The spiritual science of Kriya yoga, a vital ability in the yogis arsenal. Incorporating the four given experiments into my sitting asan has already improved my sitting time considerably. Up from a measly 13 minutes to 25 mins! Which however is still far from the 3 hour goal. My consciousness already seems subtly clearer somehow and I am feeling positive and happy.

After reading “The science of prananyama” by Sri Swami Sivananda, I have made some changes to my diet, mainly, cutting out passion exciting onions and garlic . He recommends cutting out all flesh including fish. This I may find a step to far as I really enjoy mackerel and salmon which are good sources of omega 3 and protein. He states that eggs are flesh and should not be eaten by the yogi. I really like eggs and as they are a good source of phospholipids which are very beneficial for brain functioning, I think I will continue to enjoy them for the time being. All other dietary recommendations I already practise, such as no added salt, no meat, no hot curries or spicy foods, no bitter or too strong-tasting foods etc. A balanced diet is the key. It is suggested that when first settling into a new pranayama routine one should be extremely careful in ones choice of foods.

I have been following Patrick Holfords advice on basic supplements for a few months now. Supplementing a good multi vitamin and mineral tablet as well as extra vitamin C, soya lecithin for phospholipids and omega 3,6 and 9. This is recommended for everyone. I am also taking chromium, zinc magnesium, and extra B vitamins. Because I smoked for a long time, I have also been taking some amino acids. Glutamine to restore the health  of my intestinal tract. 5-HTP, phenylalanine and tyrosine to help restore depleted neurotransmitters. GABA to aid sleep and Sam-e to help the methylation process.

The most difficult part of the yogic diet for me will be Brahmacharya!

Sri Swami Sivananda suggests 6 months to a year is a good time period to save every single drop of semen. 12 full years is the optimal time period. Ok.

Temptress in the Shadows

I shall strongly endeavour to attain this goal. (6 months – 1 year.)

Pratyahara (sense withdrawal) offers practical advice in how to conquer the evils of lust. And the lord knows I will need every technique available to help me in that department!

Sri Swami Sivananda suggests avoiding women all together. This technique may be possible if you are living in the Himalayas but in a modern city center it is impossible! The basic idea of retaining ones seminal fluid is to increase overall energy. Leaking energy simply will not do! The yogin can use the additional energy to reach higher states of consciousness. Sages contend the average person utilises less than 1% of cerebral matter. Cerebral matter is located all along the spine, in the major organs as well as the various ganglia.

When the eight limbs of yoga are practised intensely for a long period the brain eventually decides it is safe to start to wake up and the yogis system enables the ability to begin processing much higher amounts of energy. The yogi will then evolve the various siddhis described in, the bible for yoga, Patanjali‘s ‘Yoga sutras.’
